Another shot of the Avon. This time, looking out to The Bridge of Remembrance.Seagulls are everywhere. They’re also huge arseholes.The Bridge of Remembrance. Monument to those killed in WWI and WWII.The lines for the tram. Makes for a messy sky at times.I’m not sure what this is. There were several other statues in the same style. I didn’t particularly like them.Freshly flavoured ice cream! Vanilla ice cream, plus your choice of berries, goes into a machine. Delicious subtly flavoured soft serve comes out.Following the earthquake, much of the city center was out of action. One effort to entice people back was to build a small shopping mall out of shipping containers. Clothes, knick knacks, food, coffee. It’s changed locations since we were last here, but I like the fact that it’s still around.This part of the city is under heavy construction. This is to be one of the spots to excite people and draw them back.A lot of the newer buildings going up have very modern designs. The renderings of them that are displayed make me quite excited to see them once they’re finished.A statue. It’s here because there’s no reason for it not to be.More destruction. There was no indication of what will be done with this space, but I’m sure something will crop up eventually.Plants on a wall. Because if you’re going to have a wall, why not put plants on it?Imagine, the tram behind her exploding into a fiery ball of destruction. She just continues to walk, never looking back.A suspended shape in a park. This greenspace is just opposite The Cardboard Cathedral.Which brings us to the aforementioned Cardboard Cathedral. A placeholder until a decision is made over the fate of the original Cathedral. Those tubes on either side, forming the triangle, are huge cardboard rolls.A memorial to the 185 people who died in the earthquake: 185 chairs. All unique, all difference shapes and sizes.Next to the memorial is a visitors book, where visitors can leave messages. There’s also a list of names of those who died. It’s very sobering.I prefer the seagulls like this.This piece was huge. Made to seem all the more so by the lack of buildings surrounding it.A building on High St. Just down the road from where I went to music school.
